DRESDEN (October 24) – Be the Village of Dresden hosted a Zombie Run fundraiser at the Dresden’s Farmers Market Saturday, October 24. A 5K and 1-mile race was held with the first 30 signing up receiving a T-shirt.
During the race, runners met zombies on the track and received a colored flag, which were exchanged for prizes donated by local businesses in the community.
Runners were divided into groups based on age and gender.
In the boys' race for ages 9 and under, Cannon Floyd came in first; Lane Dilday finished second and Jase Dilday came in third.
For ages 12-19, Landon Floyd came in first place with Brock Dilday finishing second.
In the 30-39 age division, Kenneth Corker finished first and Wyman Price came in second.
In the 40-49 age group, Joey Cary finished first; Dustin Rainey came in second and Steven Hugueley earned third place.
Chris Poole was first place in the 50-59 group and Keith Tucker was first in 60-69.
In the girls' race for ages 13 and under, Jordan Springstead finished first; Allie Spowlding came in second and Haylee Jarred finished third.
In the 14-19 age division, Finny Archie came in first place; Tyler Anderson finished second and Sunny Andrew finished third.
In the 20-29 age group, Kelsey McCall finished first, with Kaitlyn Harrelson in second and Starla Brown in third.
For 30-39, Krystal Weldon came in first place; Ashley Price finished second place and MaryAnn Dilday finished third. In the 40-49 age group, Christy Cooper finished in first place; Ginger Cary came in second and Joy Winders came in third.
Finally, for the 50-59 age group, Melinda Dilday came in first place; Janice Hoarding came in second and Fay Washington finished in third place.
In the 5K race, earning the overall title for the men's division was Nick Skarsten with a time of 17:42; while Ellie Poole earned the overall title for the women's division with a time of 20:43.
Prizes included gift certificates to places in the county such as Rolling Hills Miniature Golf Course in Gleason, Poppi's Pizzeria in Dresden, Buff City Soap of Martin, CoCo's of Martin, Dresden 4x4, Dresden Floral Garden, The Flower Box in Dresden, Higher Ground Coffee Co. of Martin, Tiny Feet Creations, BB's Furniture of Martin and Walmart.
Be the Village is a non-profit organization, which provides clothing, toiletries, baby care, and school supplies to foster families in the area. Be the Village is organized by volunteers and works to provide families with all of the necessary supplies to provide for a new child.
