Westview FFA Participates in Numerous Activities During 2022-2023

A workshop about FFA chapter leadership was presented to all Ag classes at Westview, which involved students working in teams learning the key components of leadership.

Westview Ag shop students have been busy working on a solar trailer as one of their projects.

The Westview FFA program has many different activities including Ag mechanics, shop classes, animal science programs, and a great greenhouse.

“It has been a great school year for Westview FFA,” said Ag teacher Klye Rogers. “During this time, members have worked on various projects, competed in several career development and leadership development events and participated in several community activities.”

Some of the projects the shop students in Mr. Rogers’s classes have worked on include building new trophy cases and picture frames to showcase our basketball and football teams’ state championships and fabricating framing for a mobile solar trailer. Mr. David Hochreiter’s class built a doghouse as part of their small animal science class.

“Currently, we are preparing for our upcoming Alumni Dinner and Auction,” Mr. Rogers said. “This event will be held on March 3rd in the cafeteria at Westview High School with dinner served at 6:00 p.m. and the live auction starting at 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for the community to get together and support our students.

“We will be attending the Tennessee FFA State Convention March 18th- 22nd, and the auction helps with the student cost to attend this event,” Mr. Rogers added. The auction also funds several other trips throughout the school year, such as National Convention, the FFA Legislative Breakfast, and FFA Summer Camp at Camp Clements.

On Friday, February 10, Tennessee FFA State Officers Taylor Cantrell and Scarlett Cook created a workshop about chapter leadership for all of Mr. Rogers’ and Mr. Hochreiter’s Ag classes. Students enjoyed working in teams and understanding the key components of leadership.

The saying, “Anyone can steer the ship, but a leader must chart the course,” emphasizes the importance of leadership.
