A Weakley County couple has been indicted by the Weakley County Grand Jury on multiple counts of child abuse, neglect, and endangerment.
According to an indictment received by the Weakley County Courthouse, between the dates of October 16, 2022, and December 5, 2022, Kiya L. Easley and Deandre D. Weathers did “unlawfully, feloniously and negligently, by act or omission, engage in conduct that placed a child in imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment and the child was 8 years of age or less.” Easley and Weathers were charged with Child Endangerment, a Class D Felony.
The indictment further states that the couple treated a child 8 years of age or less “in such a way as to inflict injury and were charged with child abuse, a Class D Felony.
The indictment then stated that the couple abused a child 8 years of age or younger “so as to adversely affect the child’s health and welfare.” The couple was charged with Child Neglect or Endangerment, a Class E Felony.
The indictment stated that the couple also exposed a child 8 years of age or less to or failed to protect that child from abuse or neglect resulting in physical injury or imminent danger. The couple was charged with child endangerment, a Class A Misdemeanor.
In Tennessee a Class D Felony is punishable by 2-12 years in prison and fines of up to $5,000. A Class E Felony is punishable by 1-6 years in prison and fines up to $3,000. A Class A Misdemeanor is punishable by 11 months 29 days in jail and fines up to $2,500.
Easley is currently out on a bond of $2,500. Her arraignment is scheduled for August 12 at 9 a.m. at the Weakley County Circuit Court under Judge Jeff Parham.
Weathers has not yet been picked up by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
