Third Annual Field of Flags Honors Memory of Patriots

In celebration of Memorial Day, members of American Legion Post #55 Riders placed 250 American flags along University Street in Martin adjacent to the University of Tennessee at Martin Campus in honor of the county’s fallen heroes.

American Legion members and local volunteers created the flag display last Saturday.

Local citizens donated $20 for each flag in memory or honor of a patriot.

The flags will be on display until May 30. At that time, the flags will be taken down, folded and given to the sponsor.

Flags were placed on the graves of fallen heroes last weekend in recognition of Memorial Day.
