Sheriff's Captain McGowan Now 10-42

DRESDEN (February 26) — Friday, February 26, 2021, was the last day of work for Capt. Randall McGowan at the Weakley County Sheriff’s office.
Capt. McGowan retired after 27 years of law enforcement service to the community. He worked for the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department the past 26 years, and prior to that, one year at the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
Capt. McGowan started his career with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department in 1994 as a patrol deputy. He worked in that capacity until 2000, when he was promoted to investigator. In 2016, McGowan was promoted to the rank of Captain over investigations, and held this position until his retirement.
There were several who attended a small send-off at the sheriff’s office Friday.
Fellow officers recounted several stories about McGowan during his law enforcement career.
Capt. McGowan shared some of his memories concerning cases he worked on, or assisted in, over the years. He mentioned there are still a couple cases that haven’t been solved yet, which he hoped to see solved before he retired; but, as they remain open, these cases will follow him into retirement.
“I’m thankful to Sheriff Mike Wilson for giving me a chance to work here when he did,” McGowan said. “I’ve enjoyed working here. There have been people who told me I helped save their lives, and that makes it all worthwhile.”
Sheriff Wilson made a couple remarks regarding McGowan’s service and thanked him for the time he has devoted to the department. “This job isn’t just a job. It’s a life,” Sheriff Wilson said. “Those you work with become like family, and it’s hard to see one of them leave; but, we all wish Randall a happy retirement. He will be missed at the department.”
During the retirement reception, Chief Deputy Mark Black presented McGowan with a plaque recognizing his 27 years of service.
At 65, McGowan says he’s ready to retire and spend more time with his wife, Sheila, and his children. He also plans to travel more.
