DRESDEN (April 7) — An elderly Martin man was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Dresden on Tuesday, April 7.
The accident was reported to the Weakley County 911 Office in Dresden at approximately 5:19 a.m.
According to THP Sergeant Jena Eubanks, 86-year-old Jack Golden, of Martin, was northbound on State Highway 217 (County Maintenance Road) near Darnell Lane, when the 2013 Chevrolet Impala he was driving crossed the center line, exited the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and came to a halt after hitting a tree head on.
Fortunately, there were no passengers in the vehicle.
Dresden Fire Department responded to the scene with a rescue truck and extricated the accident victim from the vehicle.
Mr. Golden was transported to West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital in Martin by Weakley County EMS via ground ambulance.
Dresden Police officers and Weakley County Sheriff’s deputies provided traffic control, while the THP, Dresden Fire Department personnel and Weakley County EMS emergency medical technicians worked the scene of the accident.
Emergency personnel cleared the scene at 7:14 a.m.
The report states the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time the wreck occurred.
