On their small farm, they raised beef, pork, chickens, corn and cotton, not to mention the milk cow and occasional goat or two. A huge garden was always planted, Harvested and Preserved in order to feed their family of three children in which Robert and Jessie absolutely adored. Robert and Jessie, each were blessed with their final wish of taking their last breath in the peace and comfort of the home that they had filled with precious, loving memories for nearly seven decades. While her children were babies, Jessie contributed to the family income by taking in Seamstress work, baking, babysitting neighborhood kids, and anything else she could think of while staying home to raise her children. Before becoming a stay at home mom, she worked at the local Benjamin Franklin Department store in Dresden. Later, after her children started school, Jessie spent many years as secretary of Dresden Elementary School, then moved to be the secretary at the Weakley County Extension Office for the rest of her work career. She was a great supporter of youth programs such as 4-H. While Raising their family, Jessie, by her husband's side dedicated their lives to build and expand the three General Baptist Churches of Weakley County, Siloam, Unity, and Shady Grove. From deacon's wife, to youth leader, Jessie fulfilled any and all positions needed. Robert used his carpenter skills to build Sunday school rooms, etc onto each church. Jessie used her sewing skills to make youth choir outfits for more than 30 children. To say she and her husband Robert lived a life devoted to Christ would be an understatement. Once their children were grown , Jessie and Robert felt led to become active members of the Dresden First United Methodist Church and remained so throughout the rest of their lives. Jessie left the world a better place through her own personal ministry of sending creatively personalized greeting cards to many a family member, local friend or acquaintance. She loved to cut clips out of the local newspaper and mail them to the person featured in the news clip. She had a talent for making each and everyone feel special.
