Golf Tournament Fundraiser a Success for Carl Perkins Center

WEAKLEY COUNTY (July 18) — Local teams took advantage of a chance for prizes and bragging rights for a good cause when they turned out for the Weakley/Obion Counties Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse annual golf fundraiser.

The Carl Perkins Center suffered financial losses this year when the non-profit organization had to cancel its largest annual fundraiser, a gala and dinner that brings in thousands of dollars for the center. The organization provides services for families in Weakley and Obion counties dealing with trauma, child abuse, child rape and mental health issues as a result.

With the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020, for the Carl Perkins Center, the annual golf tournament fundraiser was a chance for the Center to start its financial year on a high note.

Team members didn’t let the heat and humidity deter them as they gathered at Persimmon Hills Golf Course Saturday, July 18, 2020, in support of the Center.

Center Director Amber Whitten said the event brought $5,387. While trying to determine top teams, a tie between the final two teams resulted in a hole playoff, with Cliff McWherter’s team earning the number one spot.
