Five TSSAA Class A State Qualifiers for Dresden High School Track and Field
Last Thursday, the Dresden Track and Field athletes competed against the top athletes from 33 teams in West Tennessee for a chance to advance to the TSSAA Class-A State Finals. Five athletes will represent Dresden in Murfreesboro at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, May 20th to compete against the best athletes in the state of Tennessee.
Vaughn Bounds ran and won the first heat of the 800-meter open with a time of 2:02. Bounds claimed the champion position only after the second heat of racers had finished, beating Camden’s Kade Johnson by one second. Bounds came in fourth in the 1600-meter open with a time of 4:42.40, 7.6 seconds behind first-place finisher, Jack Mantooth. Carson Brownlow-Rendon finished seventh in the 3200 with a time of 10:45. The boys 4x200 relay placed 14th in the West TN sectionals. The 4x400 relay team placed 10th and the boys 4x800 placed 6th with a time of 9:13.
The Lady Lions 4x800 relay team advanced to the state championship races. Ellie Poole, Lily Pash, Brenley Little, and Bailey Collie placed second behind the Union City team by only one second. Bailey Collie placed third in the 800-meter open, twelve seconds behind Mckenzie’s Abigail Wallace. Bailey Collie qualifies for the 800 open as a "wild card".
Brenley Little came in fifth in the 800-open. Collie also competed in the 1600 meter open, placing fifth with a time of 5:50, followed by Caroline Stevenson (11th) with a time of 6:43. Ellie Poole ran the 400 open and finished ninth with a time of 1:06. Stevenson and Pash also competed in the 3200-meter open against the best of West TN and finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Briley Smith finished 4th out of the best athletes in West Tn with a time of 51:30 for the 300-hurdles – Briley Smith qualifies for the 300-hurdles (wild card). Tess Ogg(12th) and Lily Pash(10th) also competed in the 300 hurdles. Ogg finished eighth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 20:94, and 12th in long jump. The DHS girls 4x200 relay team placed 12 with a time of 2:10.
