Firecrackers Cause Lockdown at Westview

There was a bit of scare right at the start of school on Thursday morning, Aug. 25 at Westview High School in Martin, causing the school to go into lockdown. But after it was determined that there was no danger, the school resumed its normal schedule before 9 a.m.

According to a press release from the Weakley County Director of Schools Randy Frazier, a student reported hearing suspicious sounds on the grounds of Westview High School. An immediate investigation was launched, and Lockdown Lockout measures went into full effect as part of school safety protocol.

After a complete search and inspection of school grounds, law enforcement and administration identified the source of the suspicious noise and determined that someone had lit firecrackers in the parking lot, and there was no threat of danger to students or staff. The building was cleared by law enforcement officers, after which the school resumed operations as normal.

“We are thankful to the student who reported suspicious activity so our teams could act quickly to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff,” said Frazier. “We appreciate the patience and support of our staff and student families.”
