According to a press release from Weakley County Schools, a Dresden High School student will now be facing both legal and school disciplinary action after a report was made and verified that a BB gun was found in the student’s vehicle located on school grounds.
Per the release, the incident occurred Tuesday, November 19 after school when another student reported to their coach that another student claimed to have a gun and was offering to show it to others. The coach then followed district protocols and notified DHS Principal Scott Killebrew.
The district was notified by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department that charges would be filed against the student for possession of a weapon on school campus.
Director of Weakley County Schools, Jeff Cupples, stated that he and the school’s administrators are proud and appreciative of the student who had the forethought to tell the coach.
“We often say that school safety is everyone’s responsibility. We commend the student who shared this information; we encourage all students to let a trusted adult in their building know if they have a safety concern. We appreciate the quick response of the WCSD in investigating this matter,” Cupples said.
