Dresden Board to Discuss CSX Property Sale, New Downtown Business

DRESDEN (June 30) — Due to the threat of COVID-19, the July 6, 2020 meeting of the Dresden Board of Mayor and Alderpersons will be held electronically via YouTube Live for the public, rather than in person.

Mayor Jeff Washburn will update the board concerning the proposed sale of the former CSX Railroad property owned by the City of Dresden. Sam Bone and Terry Oliver, who own Weakley County Gas & Oil, wish to acquire the former CSX property located behind their business on Pikeview Street. During their June 1 meeting, board members authorized the mayor to negotiate a price for the sale of the 1/2 acre property comparable to what the city originally paid for it per acre.

The board will also consider approving a bid for the purchase of a surface splasher aerator for the Dresden Water Department.

Additionally, the board will discuss a request by Jimbo Crawford and his business partner, Steve Pectol, to convert the old Coffee Cup Restaurant building, located on the court square, into a deli-meat market business. Crawford seeks the city board’s permission to build an elevated deck in the alley next to the restaurant, which will allow pedestrians to continue using the alley. Discussion concerning the City of Dresden lowering its ISO fire rating from a 5 to a 4 is also on the agenda.
