DHS track and field traveled to Union City High School, who played host of the Northwest TN Class A Sub-sectional competitions. Qualifiers will advance to the sub-state competitions which will take place Thursday, May 8th at Union City High School track and field. Field events will begin at 10am and running events will begin later in the day at 3:30pm.
Briley Smith had an amazing win for the 300-hurdles and advances to sub-state. She will also compete with the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams. Tess Ogg will advance to sub-state in the long jump, in which she placed 6th at the sub-sectionals, and the 300 hurdles. The girls 4x800 team including seniors, Ellie Poole, Brenley Little, and freshmen, Bailey Collie and Lily Pash, will be one team to watch as they placed second at sub-sectionals with a time of 11:22 giving them a good chance to qualify for state this year. Pash will also advance to the sub-sectionals in the 300-hurdles.
DHS top distance runner, Bailey Collie will advance in five races; the 3200-meter in which she placed third with a time of 13:25, the 1600-meter – a second-place finish only 14 seconds behind McKenzie’s, Abigail Wallace, another second-place finish in the 800 open, the 4x800 and the 4x400 relays. Senior Ellie Poole was second in the 400-meter open with a time of 1:05. She will also advance in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. Brenley Little came in a close third behind Collie with a time of 2:32. She will also advance in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Caroline Stevenson will advance to sub-sectionals in the 3200-meter open and the 1600-meter. The Dresden 4x200 meter relay (Rylee Cousins, Gracie Kibbler, Alicia Ramos and Jennah Swatzell) will also compete in the sub-state meet on Thursday.
With some of the toughest competition in the state, Vaugn Bounds placed 4th in the 1600-meter open with a time of 4:50. He was also in the top 5 for the 3200-meter race, with a time of 10:34. Bounds will also advance in the 800-open, and the 4x800 meter relay team. Senior Brice Rother, freshman Carson Brownlow-Rendon and sophomore, Christian Pash will also run the 4x800 in the sub-state races with a good chance of advancing to state. Brownlow-Rendon also placed in the top ten in the mile and 2-mile races and will advance as well. Westley Turner, Ryan Cousins, Jesse Pash, and Hayden Curry will race in the 4x200-meter dash. Asher Matheny, Brownlow-Rendon, Cavin Shofleth and Bounds will compete in the 4x400.
