GREENFIELD (August 4) — This month’s Greenfield Jackets Book Club meets August 12, 10 a.m. in the city boardroom. The pick for August is “Thunder and Rain,” by Charles Martin. Anyone who would like to participate in the book club is welcome.

Due to COVID-19, all library programs are on hold except for the Book Club. As soon as the case numbers begin to decline and remain low, the library will open more services to the public. Masks are required to enter the library. Temperature checks are conducted; anyone having a temperature of 100 or more will not be allowed to enter. The use of hand sanitizer at the facility allows patrons to pick their own materials for check out. Adults must accompany children who enter. There are four computers open for one-hour usage. Only 10 people at a time are allowed into the library. Social gatherings and public-restroom use is not allowed. Books and shelves are sanitized with a UV wand, along with sanitizing of computers and counters. Curbside service is available by calling the library. An online card catalog system is available.

Beginning August 11, the August Dog Days of Summer Reading Contest begins until August 31. To participate in the contest, a person has to check out books from the library or Libby. Each time a person checks out a book, his/her name is entered for the drawings. As the library was unable to have its regular Summer Reading Program, generous sponsors provided prizes, coupons and gift cards.

The Nathan Porter Library offers online voter registration. An online application for a new voter registration must be submitted at least 30 days before November’s election.

The library is a testing site for the boating safety exam. Test books are available. No appointment is needed, but visitors are asked to call the library in advance.

Visit the library’s website at www.dnplibrary.org and view the card catalog at bit.ly/dnplib.

A monthly newsletter for more information and a list of our new materials is available at the facility.
