WEAKLEY COUNTY — The staff at the Weakley/Obion County Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse announced two upcoming fundraising events to raise money supporting the programs provided by the facility.
This month’s fundraising event is Carl’s Closet Clean Out. Individuals and businesses are invited to clean out their closets and donate new and gently used items for a yard sale on Saturday, June 27. Donations are accepted June 15-20, and can be dropped off at the Carl Perkins Center in Martin, located at 408 N. Lindell Street. On Saturday, July 18, the Carl Perkins Center is hosting the third annual Players for Prevention Scramble at the Persimmon Hills Golf Course. The event kicks off with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The Four-man Scramble entry fee is $50 per person, which amounts to $200 per team. Individuals will be paired. A cart and lunch are included. It costs $100 to sponsor a hole. Cash prizes are based on a full field event and are as follows: 1st place - $600, 2nd place - $400, and 3rd place - $200. Awards will be presented to the player who makes the longest drive and the golfer whose ball is closest to the pin. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Players can register at Persimmon Hills Golf Course, online, or by mail.
The tournament is sponsored by Wendell Alexander Realty and E.W. James & Sons Supermarket.
