DRESDEN (October 7) —This week, Joyce Hurt announced her candidacy for re-election to the post of alderwoman in the November 3, 2020, Dresden City Election.
She was a Dresden businesswoman for 55 years, before retiring from The Headquarters Beauty Salon six years ago. In announcing her candidacy, Hurt, who served as mayor and city alderperson, is asking the people of Dresden to put their faith and trust in her once again and re-elect her to another term in office. She announced this is the last time she plans to seek re-election to the Dresden Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
“For the past 40 years, I have been your voice,” Hurt said. “I will continue to speak for you and vote the way I feel is best for you.
“As time draws near to November 3, let us all pray for our town and people who live here. I promise to uphold the office of alderman with honesty and dignity.”
Hurt, who was married to the late Buck Hurt, had one son, Butch Stricklin, who is also deceased.
Concerning her community involvement, Hurt is a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Dresden. Additionally, she served as a member of the Dresden Lions Club for 10 years.
