Gleason Jr. High Splits with Dresden Middle

Gleason Junior High and Dresden Middle School basketball split wins and losses Thursday night, Dec. 1, in Gleason. The hosting Lady Bulldogs dominated the visiting Lady Lions 41-18 in the girls’ game, and then the Lions turned those tables around on the Bulldogs 55-16 in the nightcap.

In the opening contest, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a big 18-3 lead in the first period, but the Lady Lions rallied and went point-for-point (7-7) with Gleason in the second stanza.

Still, the Lady Bulldogs held a comfortable 25-10 advantage at the half.

The Gleason girls went on to outscore Dresden 9-5 in the third quarter and 7-3 in the fourth.

Gleason’s Hylan Leach and Hayden Beasley both broke double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Also scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Skylar Arnold with 7 points, Brinley Lehmkuhl with 4 apiece, Ava Bennett with 2, and Paisley McClure with 1.

Caroline Stephenson and Molly Robinson both put up 4 points for Dresden, followed by Irah Cianfrani with 3; Jentri Mangiaracinia, Marissa Owens, and Riley Brooks with 2 each; and Jacie West with 1.

The Lions blew it out with 26 points in the first quarter of the boys game, while holding the Bulldogs to just three points.

Dresden slowed down in the second quarter, but still outscored Gleason 14-4 to arrive at the half with a towering 40-7 lead.

The Bulldogs showed some defiance in the third quarter, nearly matching Dresden’s 11 points with 9 of their own, but the Lions owned the court in the fourth, going 11-0 over Gleason.

The scoring was widely distributed among the Lions, but Ayden Flora led the pack with 13 points. Also scoring for Dresden were Miles Collins with 9 points, Landon Floyd with 8, Nate Taylor with 5, Tyler Moore with 4, and J.D. Seaton, Jacoby Sutton, Athan Spaulding, Dawson Slone, Caiden Mount, Conner Evans, Blaize Turnbow, and Wooden Browning, all with 2 points apiece.

Brycen Cooper led the Bulldogs with 10 points, followed by Bo Bailey with 4 and Jaxson Morgan with 2.

On Monday night, Dec. 5, the Lions visited Greenfield, falling to the Yellow Jackets 48-36.

The Jackets led 10-8 at the end of the first period, but the Lions outscored Greenfield 13-9 in the second quarter to lead 21-19 at the half. Greenfield, however, ruled the second half, going 20-9 over Dresden in the third quarter and 9-6 over the Lions in the fourth.

Greenfield’s Cruz Porter and Dresden’s Landon Cantrell led their teams in scoring, both with 14-point tallies.
