Book Discussion to Focus on ‘The Giver of Stars’

The next Friends of the Library book discussion will be held from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Martin Public Library. Friends of the Library member and former MPL library director Roberta Peacock will lead this discussion of Jojo Moyes’ novel “The Giver of Stars.”

Set during the Great Depression, “The Giver of Stars” is about five women who become the Horseback Librarians of Kentucky. These Horseback Librarians operate as part of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s mission to bring reading to the masses, and the librarians travel on horseback to deliver books. Based on actual events, it’s a book about adventure, friendship, love and, of course, books.

The discussion is open to all in the community, and newcomers are welcomed. Readers do not have to have completed the book in order to attend the discussion.

The May book discussion will feature Friends of the Library member Barbara Trentham leading a discussion of the novel “Before We Were Yours,” by Lisa Wingate. That discussion will take place from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, and is also based on actual events.

Martin Public Library is open until 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings.
