Amelia “Amy” Rachel Gilbert, age 76, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022.
Amy was born in Martin, Tennessee, on February 14, 1945, to the late Alton and Doris Rambo.
She grew up on a farm in Dresden, Tennessee. After raising her family in Dresden, she and her husband, Ron, moved to the Middle Tennessee area and ultimately settled in Columbia. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Columbia. From an early age, Amy valued education. Amy proudly gained her Master’s, plus 45 in education after many rigorous years of studying. She aspired to not only become a teacher but to grow and nourish young minds with the same excitement she had as a young one. She was a very passionate educator throughout all her years. She devoted almost 40 years as a 5th-Grade school teacher, and later she earned a position as a Vice Principal. Her work did not go unnoticed; she went on to train more educators in the education system. When she wasn’t in school, she would take her gift to First United Methodist Church to teach vacation Bible school. Amy cherished children, knowing they all had a bright future ahead of them. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and all the lives she’s touched.
The family will receive family and friends (today) Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 1 p.m., with the service commencing at 2 p.m. To follow, Ms. Amelia will be laid to rest at Polk Memorial Mausoleum.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ron Gilbert. She is survived by her sons Jim (Regina) Gilbert and Brian (Mindy) Gilbert; granddaughters: April Travis and Amie Beth Alva; and six great-grandchildren.
