High School Football Teams Rank in Top Three

WEAKLEY COUNTY (September 13) – Local high schools are now entering week five of the football season. The TSSAA has announced rankings based on team records in this season. Looking at the recent week’s scores and rankings, all area high schools are in the top three of their respected classes and regions.

In Class 2A, Region 7, Westview is currently ranked #1 with 3-1 record this season. They started the season beating Dresden 48-13 on August 20 and losing to Peabody 31-29 in week two. In week three, the Chargers won against Gibson County by a score of 42-6 and picked up another win Friday, September 10, against Fairview with a score of 47-14.

Greenfield is currently ranked #3 with a 2-1 record this season in Class 1A, Region 7. The Yellowjackets started off the season against South Fulton with a win by a score of 14-0, but lost the following week to Dresden by a score of 23-30. In week three, the Jackets won against Halls with a runaway score of 37-0. Greenfield had a bye Friday night.

In Class 1A, Region 6, Dresden is currently ranked #2 with Gleason right behind the Lions at #3. Both teams currently have a 3-1 record.

Dresden started off the season with a loss to Westview 48-13, but defeated its next three opponents: Greenfield 23-30, Fayette Academy 41-0, and Gibson County 34-12.

The Bulldogs began the season shutting out Fulton County 40-0. They lost against West Carroll 27-21 the following week, but won against Hollow Rock-Bruceton 69-27 and Scotts Hill 49-13.

This week, Dresden will host Gleason for the Lions’ first regional game of the season. Westview will travel to Camden for the Chargers’ second regional game and Greenfield will return to play action Friday when the Yellowjackets host Peabody.
