William Love, Sr.

William George Love, Sr. was born to the late Will and Annie Love on November 7, 1930, of Sharon, Tennessee. William was the only son of four children born to this union. William George Love Sr. transitioned peacefully at Villa at Palos Heights, Palos Heights, Illinois, Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Born in Sharon, Tennessee, William attended the Sharon Elementary School for Negro Children and completed high school at Weakley County Training School, Martin, Tennessee. William left home to attend college at Tennessee State University (HBCU) Nashville, Tennessee, where after two years, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably in the Korean War from 1952 through late 1953.

William returned to Tennessee to resume his college education at Tennessee State University after his discharge from the U.S. Army and completed his Undergraduate Degree. William went on to obtain a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee (Nashville, Tennessee), where he was one of two black students in his graduate class. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee, Master’s Degree Program, he followed his dream to go north to visit his Uncle and Aunt in Chicago Illinois.

William lived in his Uncle and Aunt’s basement while seeking employment.

He was employed with the Cook County Hospital, Social Services Department, where he met his lovely wife, Horece Bolden. They were married in 1958; from this union two sons were born: William George Love Jr. (Billy) and Stuart Jonathan Love Sr. Sadly, this marriage ended after several years. William was employed with the Cook County Hospital for over thirty-five years. Upon his retirement, he relocated to California where he met an old college sweetheart (Grace). They were soon married; however, this union was short lived due to the sudden death of Grace.

William returned to Chicago and obtained his real estate license and began selling homes and other properties. He met Sandra F. Lewis, who became his companion.

William was a devoted Christian and accepted Christ at a young age at Pleasant View Baptist Church, in Sharon, Tennessee. When he moved to Chicago, William became a dedicated member of Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, Chicago, Illinois.

William G. Love was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and served as a dedicated Masonic brother for many years.

William G. Love Sr. is preceded in death by his loving parents, Will and Annie Love; sisters, Mary Virginia Starr, Edna Francis Love, and Annie Marie Miller; his youngest son, Stuart Jonathan Love Sr., wives, Horece Love and Grace Love.

William leaves to cherish his memories, his son, William George Love Jr.; granddaughter, Madeline Love; grandson, Stuart Jonathan Love Jr.; nephews Colonel (U.S. Army retired) Kenneth L. Starr, and Robert N. Starr; nieces, Carolyn Vaughan, the Honorable Judge (retired) Margo Sheri Estrada, Sandra Starr; daughter-in-law, Glenda Jakes-Love; a host of cousins, including Edna White; companion Sandra F. Lewis and many friends and loving church members.
