Man Hit with Car During Altercation

MARTIN (December 31) – A verbal altercation apparently led to a man being hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Martin gas station on New Year’s Eve.

According to an incident report issued by the Martin Police Department, Derrick Williams, 54, of Martin approached Darwin Knox, 50, of Martin in the parking lot of 3J’s in Martin a little after midnight December 31, 2020, and the pair had a verbal exchange over a woman.

Williams allegedly got into his vehicle, a 2003 white BMW, and hit Knox with it in the parking lot. The report notes video footage showed the pair in a verbal exchange and Williams striking the victim with his car. According to the incident report, Williams admitted to the verbal exchange and driving his vehicle into the victim.

Williams was issued a criminal summons for aggravated assault.
