MARTIN (October 30) – The Martin Westview Chargers will no longer be classified as a Class 3A school for football, but instead moves into the Class 2A Division according to information released by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Friday. This change goes into effect next season.

Classification is based on enrollment of Grades 9-12. In 2016 Westview reported 619 students. Enrollment decreased to 509 as of this year. Schools are reclassified every four years and this year due to COVID-19, the TSSAA board made the decision to classify for two years instead of four. Representatives noted its because they believe all schools might see a change in enrollment numbers due to the virus.

Westview will be the only school in Weakley County to have a reclassification for the next two years as Dresden, Gleason and Greenfield will remain in the Class 1A Division.
