We Care Ministries Announces November Needs

MARTIN – We Care Ministries of Martin has announced items needed for its food pantry and thrift store. Money spent in the non-profit’s thrift store is used to provide utility and rent assistance, eye and dental care, school supplies for children and food items for families in need throughout Weakley County.

The thrift store is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Outside sales begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Wednesdays. “Wacky Wednesdays” are the first Wednesday of each month, offering special pricing for items in the thrift store.

For those in need of assistance, the office open is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 a.m. Call 731-587-6257 for food, rent or utility assistance to set up an appointment.

Funds are available for a limited time for individuals over the age of 70 for utility or rent, even if hours are owed at the ministry previously for assistance.

Christmas applications are being accepted through November 12 for Family Toy Assistance and Senior Adult Christmas Party. Those applying for family toy assistance need to apply in person Mondays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 a.m. Proof of address in the form of cable, electric, phone or water bills or a Martin Housing Authority statement is needed to apply, along with a Social Security card of everyone living in the home.

Donation items needed to help local families include the following:

Food Bank: saltine crackers and SPAM products;

Thrift Store: Gently-used household items, kitchen and cooking utensils, gently-used furniture, chests of drawers, microwaves, bath towels, washcloths, American flags, reusable plastic bags, VCR and DVD players. Note: We Care no longer accepts donations of televisions unless they are flat-screen. The ministry also does not accept computer towers, monitors and laptops, built-in appliances, sofa beds, paint from individuals or home-recorded VCR tapes.

Clothing Store: Men’s and women’s plus sizes, children’s clothing including infant and toddler sizes, all sizes of shoes (especially children’s), all jeans, shirts, blouses, coats for all ages and all sizes of new underclothing.

Miscellaneous: Books (Christian fiction and non-fiction, romance and mystery), Bibles for children and adults, Western books and children’s books.

Donation hours if a receipt for donations is required are Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.; Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon. Containers are available outside anytime for drop-off of donations if no receipt is needed.
