Juvenile Charged with Theft of Campaign Signs

MARTIN — A Martin teen recently confessed to stealing campaign signs at a local busy intersection.

According to Martin Police Officer Jeremy Diehl, at approximately 7:24 p.m. on July 26, a Martin resident reported three of her campaign signs were stolen.

The victim told officers, she placed three Joe Biden for President campaign signs on three of the corners at the intersection of Skyhawk Parkway and University Street at approximately 3 p.m.

She then placed a sign at the intersection of University Street and Courtright Road. When she drove back past the areas approximately 30 minutes later, the signs, which are valued at $20, were missing.

On July 29, Investigator Sarah Rogers conducted an interview with a 17-year-old juvenile suspect at the Martin Police Department while in the company of his parent. The suspect waived his right to legal counsel and freely admitted to committing the offense. The teen was issued a juvenile petition and released into the custody of his mother.

The juvenile was required to pay restitution and court costs.
