Dresden Man Killed in a Single Vehicle Accident

WEAKLEY COUNTY (April 23) — A Dresden man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 near Sharon.

According to THP Sergeant Jena Eubanks, 71-year-old Johnny Petty, Sr., of Dresden, was traveling north on Highway 89, when his 2008 Nissan Frontier ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and exited the left side of the highway. The vehicle then crossed a driveway, struck a fence and overturned.

Weakley County EMS and Rescue Squad, Sharon Fire Department, and Weakley County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene to assist during the emergency.

Mr. Petty was later pronounced deceased at Volunteer Hospital in Martin.

Private graveside funeral services were Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Salem Cemetery in Rutherford, Tennessee.
