Dresden, Weakley County Arrests Armed Robber, Kidnapper

DRESDEN (March 12) Weakley County Sheriff's Department and Dresden Police Department arrested a 36-year-old white male after a Thursday morning armed robbery and kidnapping.

According to a press release by Dresden Police Chief Steve Howe, officers arrested John David Hitt, 36, of Martin on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon after an altercation at South Cedar Street, Dresden, in which the gunman assaulted and robbed the victim at gunpoint.

The victim was held at gunpoint then driven to Martin to retrieve money. Once at the location in Martin, the victim escaped and called the police. Martin Police Department responded and issued a bulletin describing the gunman and the vehicle. Dresden Police Department and the Weakley County Sheriff's Department located the vehicle in Dresden. The subject escaped on foot. After a two-hour search of the neighborhood, Dresden Assistant Chief Chris Crocker and Weakley County Sheriff Department Investigator James Sanders found the subject hiding in a shed.

Hitt was arrested and transported to Weakley County Jail, where he is incarcerated without bond.
