Weakley County's unemployment rate dipped to 3.5% in April 2025, down from 3.7% the previous month, according to newly released data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD). This local rate now aligns with Tennessee's seasonally adjusted statewide figure of 3.5%, underscoring a stable employment trend in the region.
Neighboring counties reported similar rates, with Obion County at 3.3% and Henry County also at 3.5%, suggesting a broadly positive employment landscape across northwest Tennessee.
Statewide, 94 of Tennessee’s 95 counties experienced a decrease in unemployment rates from March to April. Only Unicoi County saw an increase, rising to 4.9%.
Williamson County led the state with the lowest unemployment rate at 2.2%, followed by Rutherford County at 2.3%. Wilson, Cheatham, Knox, and Robertson counties all recorded rates of 2.4%. At the other end of the spectrum, Johnson County reported the highest unemployment rate at 5.1%, though even that figure declined slightly from the previous month.
The U.S. unemployment rate in April stood at 4.2%, making Tennessee’s statewide figure comparatively lower.
County-level unemployment rates are not adjusted for seasonal variables, such as school breaks or weather events, unlike the statewide figure.
