Local Miniature Golf Event Boosts Wreaths Across America Toward Yearly Goal

GOLFING FOR A GOOD CAUSE – A couple of young golfers participate in an Oct. 22 event at Rolling Hills Miniature Golf Course in Gleason to benefit Wreaths Across America.
On October 22 Rolling Hills Miniature Golf Course in Gleason, TN hosted a tournament in support of Wreaths Across America locations in Weakley and Obion Counties (TNECMT).
Fourteen individuals spent one or more hours playing 1-3 rounds of golf. Each round of golf sponsored one wreath, for a base total of 34 wreaths. Those playing included veterinary technicians and staff members from Hooks in Martin, as well as staff members and family of Crank’d Up Garage in Martin.
Support for the tournament was provided by members of American Legion Post 55 in Martin. As a 3 for 2 sponsorship group, Post 55 turned the 34 wreaths into 51, helping TNECMT move closer to 900 of the 1400 wreaths needed for this year.
Golfers were placed in age range categories. All playing fell into the same category. First place was taken by Malinda Cox with a round of 39. Second place ended in a tie between Logan Workman and Alexis Reynolds (Wallace), both with a score of 42. Third place fell to Shelby Fernimen, who earned a score of 44 on two of three rounds.
Prizes will be awarded at the National Wreaths Across America Day ceremony on December 17, beginning at 11 a.m. This ceremony will be held at Union City Baptist Temple.
Following the ceremony, wreaths will be taken to each of the three cemeteries included in TNECMT at this time. Once at the cemetery, a brief presentation will be held, followed by the laying of the ceremonial wreaths at the gravesites of veterans.
