UTM’s Vanguard Theatre Offers Season Preview

MARTIN (July 26) – The UT Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts is pleased to announce the Vanguard Theatre’s 2022-23 play season, which will focus on the idea of “community.” The season will begin in the Fall, with performances of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” as well as staged readings of two plays as a part of its annual Reader’s Theatre.

In the Spring, performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will take place, as well as a series of student-written and -directed pieces that serve as culminations of the work created in two classes throughout the academic year.

The focus of this season is “community,” both in terms of the themes of the plays, as well as engaging with Martin and the surrounding area. “Our Town” is the quintessential play about community, and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” captures childhood community in all its cruelness and wonder. The student-written and -directed productions will showcase the work of our student community as they take on the variety of tasks required to put on a production. The department also invites the community to participate in open auditions for these productions.

For more information and updates, follow the UT Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts on Facebook and Instagram (@utm_vta), or call 731-881-7400.

“We look forward to celebrating community this year with all of Martin and the surrounding area,” organizers noted.
