Young Musicians Honored

YOUNG MUSICIANS HONORED AT MEETING — At the November 8 meeting of the Philharmonic Music Guild, co-presidents Elwood Doss (L) and Denise Doss (R) presented certificates honoring Guild Scholarship and Award winners as follows: James McGregor (second from left), 2021 Scholarship Winner; Jonah Simmons (third from left), 2021 Special Award Winner; and Daniel Capua (fourth from left), the 2020 Music Guild Scholarship winner. With the musicians is Elaine Harriss, who did piano collaboration with Daniel Capua on Fisher Tull’s “Sarabande and Gigue,” the piece he selected to play for Music Guild at the meeting held at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Trumpet players McGregor and Simmons played two duets, “Bolero” and “Hail! Star of Mary,” for members and guests. All three musicians are in the UT Martin Aviators Marching Band, the pep band that plays at basketball games, and the Martin Community Band. All three thank family, friends, and their music teachers for continued support and encouragement. For many years, the Philharmonic Music Guild has provided financial assistance to the musical community through scholarships and contributions to students, schools, and organizations in Weakley and Obion counties. Membership in the Guild is open to all in the community who are interested in music.
