Friends of Martin Public Library to Hold Book Discussion
The first meeting of the Friends of Martin Public Library book discussion group will be held from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, in the Friends of the Library (FOL) Café area of the new library.
This first discussion of the reorganized “Let’s Talk about It” group features one of the most famous ghost stories ever written — Henry James’ novella “The Turn of the Screw,” a work that is certainly worthy of attention.
All in the community are welcome to join the FOL group to help determine just how real the ghosts are and how much danger two children face. FOL member Anna Clark will lead this first discussion. “The Turn of the Screw” is free online (just do a search for the title), and copies are available also through Tennessee Reads and at MPL and other county libraries.
A Thursday evening, once each month, has been selected for the discussion because Martin Public Library stays open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Other book discussions and leaders are scheduled by the FOL group as follows:
November 18 — with leader Marion Pitts;
December 30 — with FOL members discussing favorite children’s books and Christmas stories;
January 27 — with leader Jim Clark focusing on Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.;
February 24 — with leader Linda Plunk; March 24—with leader Judy Clark focusing on a classic mystery novel;
April 28 — with leader Roberta Peacock selecting a book and
May 26, with leader Barbara Trentham selecting a book for discussion.
Members of the Friends of the Library group urge all in the community to join any or all of these discussions and to enjoy the beautiful space in the Friends of the Library café area where used books are on sale whenever the library is open. Marion Pitts is chair of the FOL group. New members are always welcome.
