TENNESSEE’S NEW LAWS IN EFFECT JULY 1: DEATH PENALTY APPEALS, HANDHELD PHONE BAN; ETC.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Several key bills became effective on July 1, including legislation to reform Tennessee’s death penalty appeals process by expediting cases straight to the Tennessee Supreme Court. The new law eliminates an intermediate step to the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Another important law bans the use of hand-held phones while driving.

Other laws involve: Sports Betting, Criminal Justice Reform, Businesses Operated by Minors, Indecent Exposure Law, Child Abuse Cases, Drone Drops, Child Marriages, Cock Fighting, Traffic safety, GIVE Act, Agricultural Tax Exemptions, Amusement Tax, Fiber-Optic Cable, GPS Monitoring, Felons Minimum Sentence & Good Behavior, Sport Shooting Ranges, Faith-Based Initiatives, SLAPP Lawsuits, Child Rape, Human Trafficking, and Elder Abuse:.
