Sharon Board rescinds proposed charter amendment


The Sharon Board reversed its position concerning a change to the City’s charter, during Monday night’s meeting.
The charter states that, every June, the police chief and city recorder must be rehired for them to remain employed.

However, the charter does not apply to other department heads, who are hired and replaced at the board’s discretion. It is this disparity that generated a hot debate among board members.

Previously, the Board approved amending Section 5 of the city charter so that this requirement would be eliminated and all department heads would be on equal footing.
