Dresden police officers participate in an active shooter training course staged at Dresden K-8 School.
The motto “Protect and Serve” is taken seriously by members of the Dresden Police Department. The officers participate in numerous training exercises each year to maintain a high level of proficiency in their occupational skills, in order to keep the community safe.
For example, on July 29, the entire Dresden Police Force took part in an eight-hour active shooter and crisis training course conducted at Dresden K-8 School.
Lt. John Cross of the Martin Police Department, who is a certified active shooter instructor, taught the course.
According to Investigator Steve Howe, procedures outlined in the course help officers to better deal with both active shooter and crisis situations not only in schools, but also at the courthouse, post offices, restaurants, supermarkets, retail stores and other businesses.
