IRIS FESTIVAL LUNCHEON
DRESDEN: You are cordially invited to attend the Iris Festival
"Potluck" luncheon at the Dresden Senior Citizens Center on
Wednesday, April 30th at 12:00 noon. Admission is free and everyone

IRIS FESTIVAL BAKING CONTEST
DRESDEN: The Dresden Senior Citizens Center would like to invite
you to bring your favorite baked goods on Wednesday, April 30th to
the Harmon and Lucille McWherter Civic Center, 589 Evergreen Street,
Dresden. Entries may be brought in starting at 8:00 a.m. and judging
will begin at 10:00 a.m. This is open to all ages. There is no entry
fee. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third place

ACENSION DAY
UNION CITY: Thursday, May 1st is the Acension Day of our Lord
and Faith Lutheran Church, 2012 E. Reelfoot Avenue in Union City
will be having a worship service that evening. The service will
begin at 7:00 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. The church is
located across from the Union City National Guard building.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER OBSERVANCE
SET
GREENFIELD: The annual Weakley County National Day of Prayer
observance will be held in Greenfield on Thursday, May 1 with a 6:00
p.m. community service at the First United Pentecostal Church, 202
S. Front Street.
Ministry and laity from all Christian denominations are encouraged
to attend the Weakley County observance. Several area ministers and
civic leaders will be speaking and offering prayers. Tim and Lana
Chandler, nationally-traveled singers and evangelists, will be

TENNESSEE IRIS FESTIVAL QUILT SHOW
DRESDEN: This year's Tennessee Iris Festival Quilt Show will be
held from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2, and from 9 a.m.
until 3 pm. on Saturday, May 3. Categories include: regular pieced
quilts, appliqué/mixed technique quilts, quilted wall hangings, old
quilts (25 years or older), cross-stitch quilts, baby quilts,
machine quilts, quilts from kits (a. hand, b. machine), and novice
(if needed). Exhibitors are asked to submit their quilt entries in
this year's Tennessee Iris Festival Quilt Show for judging between
11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Due to space
limitations, only two entries per person, per class will be
permitted. Quilts that have previously won awards in the Iris
Festival Quilt Show are not eligible to be entered. All entries will
be treated with the utmost care and protected 24 hours per day
during the Iris Festival. Quilts must be picked up Saturday, May 5

IRIS FESTIVAL GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR MAY 1
DRESDEN: The 13th Annual Iris Festival Golf Tournament will be
held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Persimmon Hills Golf Course in
Sharon. The tournament will be a three-person scramble with cash
prizes for several teams. Lunch will be provided by the Dresden
Rotary Club at 11:30 a.m. and tee time to follow at 12:30 p.m.
Applications may be picked up at Dresden Insurance Agency, Dresden
City Hall, or the Persimmon Hills Golf Course. Deadline for
applications is April 30, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. For more information,

DANCE
GREENFIELD: There will be a dance at Greenfield City Park on
Friday, May 2 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., sponsored by the
Greenfield Senior Citizens. The DJ will be Earl McAlister. There
will be finger foods as well.
THOMPSON CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH SINGING
COMO: Thompson Creek Baptist Church will be having a singing
featuring "Frog Jump Quartet" on Saturday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come and join in.
CORNER CAFE FEATURED DURING IRIS
FESTIVAL
DRESDEN: The Iris Festival Corner Cafe will be held Friday, May
2 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Dresden First United Methodist
Church fellowship hall.
Food items to be sold at the event for $7.00 per plate will include
a sandwich, salad, dessert and a drink.
Proceeds from the Corner Cafe will be used for mission work by the
United Methodist Women and the building fund.

REVIVAL
DRESDEN: Liberty Baptist Church, Dresden, will have a revival
May 4-7. Sunday night service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. Bro. Billy Crowell will be the
guest evangelist.
SECOND ANNUAL STROLLING TO SURVIVE STROKE
MARTIN: HealthSouth Cane Creek will be hosting the 2nd Annual
Strolling to Survive Stroke May 6, 2008. The event will be from
11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Participants will walk around a short track and
can visit booths set up to provide information on Stroke Awareness
and Prevention. An educational presentation on stroke will be
presented by the Neuro Therapy team from HealthSouth Cane Creek.
Lunch will be provided. RSVP needed by May 1, 2008. For more

8TH ANNUAL 6T'S HORSE FARMING DAY
LATHAM: Ever wanted to plow; rake hay with a horse or take a
horse drawn wagon ride? Then here is your chance. The 8th Annual
6T's Horse Farming Day will be held on Saturday, May 10 (rain date
May 17). The activities begin at 9:00 a.m. until the last horse
leaves the field. Special features include "horse power" logging
demonstration; adult and youth plowing events; just plain ole horse
plowing; disking; raking/baling hay and wagon rides with lots of
fun, food and fellowship. All work will be done with horses and
mules. Drinks and vittles provided by Dresden FFA Chapter. Admission
and activities are free. The field day will take place 7 miles north
of Dresden off Hwy. 118, 1 1/2 miles down Turbeville Road. For

RELAY FOR LIFE MAY 30TH
GREENFIELD: Join us May 30th at the Greenfield Football Field
for the Southwest Relay For Life. Activities will begin at 3:00 p.m.
and we will be selling good food at 5:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies
will begin at 7:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. it's time to get crazy with
games. Then at 9:30 p.m., we get serious and begin our Luminary
Ceremony to honor our friends and loved ones who have been struck
with cancer. From 10:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m., there will be more
games and team competitions. Come on out and share a good time while
raising money for a really good cause.

TRENTHAM NANNEY FAMILY REUNION
REELFOOT LAKE: The Andrew and Alice Nanney family reunion will
be held at Reelfoot Lake on June 7 at 11:30 a.m. Their children were
Nancy Nicely, Henry Lee Nanney, Ivie Gertrude Sawyers, Clyde Nanney,
Rudy Cleveland Nanney, and William Arthur Nanney. It will be
potluck, so bring a few dishes your family likes to eat, drinks,
lawn chairs, and any family history you have. Cups, plates, napkins,

HIGHWAY BOARD AND PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE TO MEET
DRESDEN: The Weakley County Board of Highway Commissioners and
Public Works Committee will hold their regular monthly meeting on
Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the county highway department.

DRESDEN: The Health, Education, and Economic Development
Committee will meet on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. The
meeting will be held in the conference room at the Weakley County
Department of Finance.

will meet on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting will
be held in the conference room at the Weakley County Board of
Education/Department of Finance in Dresden.

DRESDEN: The Dresden High School Class of 1968 are planning
their 40th Reunion for July 4-5, 2008. The class needs contact

FIRE DEPARTMENT
DUES
LATHAM/DUKEDOM: The fire dues for the Latham and Dukedom
Volunteer Fire Department were due January 1. They are $50 per
residence and commercial building. If you have not paid your fire
dues, they may be mailed to: Latham & Dukedom Vol. Fire Dept., 5337
Hwy. 118, Dresden, TN 38225. Please include address of residence or
commercial building that you are paying for. Also, keep in mind, for
all non-members fire calls have been raised to $1500.00.
