The Dresden Lions advanced to the TSSAA Class 1-A State Championship game Friday night with a 33-14 win over Wayne County. The Wildcats of Wayne County came into the game with an identical 13-0 record as Dresden.
The Lions will face off against Greenback located in Loudon County in the State Championship game on Friday, December 2 at 11 a.m. at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.
Greenback comes into the game with a 14-0 record after defeating South Pittsburg by a score of 42-27 Friday night in the other Class 1-A brackett. Greenback advanced by picking up a forfeit over Unaka in the first play-off game and then defeated Oneida, 49-7, in the second round game. Greenback defeated Coalfield, 28-21, in round 3 of the play-offs to advance to game 4 against South Pittsburg.
Dresden, also 14-0 going into the Championship game, defeated Booker T. Washington, 46-8, in round 1 to advance to face off against Trenton Peabody in round 2. The Lions defeated Trenton 48-13 to advance to round 3 against Union City. Dresden then defeated Union City 40-14 to play in the fourth round game against Wayne County.
Advance tickets for Dresden High School’s appearance in the Class A State Championship will be on sale next week. Tickets can be purchased at DHS on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The cost per ticket is $12. Tickets bought at Dresden will benefit the local school greater than those purchased at the gate on Friday in Cookeville.
