It is said that it is hard to beat a good
time four times in a row, but Bradford proved that the Lady
Red Devils had what it took to do that, as they ended the
Gleason Lady Bulldogs season on Monday night with a 39-31
defeat in the semifinals of the Region 7-A Tournament at
Huntingdon High School.
The Lady Red Devils got off to a strong start, countering a
Kim Edenfield three-pointer with a three-pointer from Sarah
Combs and a pair of two pointers to take a four-point lead
with 2:13 left in the opening frame. A pair of Edenfield
free throws cut the Bradford lead to 7-5 at the end of the
first quarter.
Though a pair of Taylor Stout free throws tied the game early
in the second frame, the Lady Red Devils seemed ready to put
the game out of reach during the second quarter. A Molly
Wallsmith three-pointer sparked a 15-2 run that was capped
by four points from Jasmine Morgan to extend the Bradford
lead back to 13 points with just under a minute left in the
first half. A late jumper from Sara Hensley cut the lead
down to 22-11 at the half.
Gleason proved that the Lady Dawgs were not down and out
during the third quarter as a jumper from Jenna Frazier led
to eight points from Hensley to counter a Morgan tally and
cut the Lady Red Devil lead down to three points. Bradford
got the final points of the stanza as a layup by Combs put
the Bradford lead back to 26-21 at the end of three frames.

|

The Gleason Lady Bulldogs may have been the favorite to
advance past the McKenzie Lady Rebels on Thursday night at
McKenzie High School in the quarterfinals of the Region 7-A
Tournament, but the Lady Rebs made sure Gleason would not
have a cakewalk into the semifinals as McKenzie gave the
Lady Bulldogs all they wanted before Gleason rallied to take
a 35-28 win.
McKenzie got off on the right foot as a jumper from Zana
Carter and a three-point play from Alex Gray capped a 7-2
run to open the first frame. Though a three-pointer from
Gleason’s Kim Edenfield cut the lead down to a single
bucket, the Lady Rebs responded with a layup from Amber
Nunnery and a pair of Carter free throws put the McKenzie
girls up by six with 1:46 left in the opening frame. Gleason
was able to cut into the lead with a jumper from Sara
Hensley and a pair of free throws by Ashley Coble to make
the score11-9 at the end of the first stanza.
A Carter jumper and a Gray deuce pushed the McKenzie lead
back to six points early in the second frame. The Lady
Rebels were able to keep that deficit in place until late in
the frame when buckets from Jenna Frazier and Coble cut the
lead down to a single bucket before a late Carter tally made
the score 21-17 at the half.
