Gleason rallies for district win over Bradford Red Devils

By Jason Peevyhouse

Sports Editor

The Gleason Bulldogs picked up a district win on Thursday afternoon, but had to battle to do so as a late rally gave the Gleason baseball team a 10-6 win at home.
The Red Devils got on the board first as Gentry Hampton scored on an error in the top of the second inning to break the scoreless tie.
But, Gleason came right back in the bottom of that inning, as Nicky Spain (running for pitcher Thomas Fowler) scored on an Evan Orr single to tie the game at 1-1. Orr scored later in the inning on a Cody Ezell base hit to give Gleason a 2-1 lead after two innings.
Gleason added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as a passed ball lead to Zach Wallace scoring to extend the Bulldog lead to 4-1 at the end of three frames.
But, Bradford rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the following inning to take a 6-4 lead.
However, it was Gleason’s turn to rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. An RBI double from Colin Bennett cut the lead to one. After Bennett and Wallace each crossed the plate to give the lead back to the Dawgs, an RBI single by Orr put the Gleason lead at 8-6 after five innings.
