Though
the Lady Chargers led for much of the championship game of
the 44th Annual Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament, a
late Henry County rally put Westview behind in the waning
minutes. But, a quick Lady Charger rally gave the Westview
girls their eighth straight Lions Club Tournament title with
a 53-51 win over the Lady Patriots.
A three-point play by Sarah Hefner put the Lady Patriots
ahead early in the final frame. But, Amber Rechis answered
with a jumper and Grace Ann Swaim added a three-pointer to
put the Lady Chargers ahead 43-40 with just over seven
minutes in the game. Henry County answered with a free throw
from Tianna Porter to spark a 7-0 run to put the Lady Pats
ahead by four points with 4:34 left in the period. The Henry
County girls were able to hang onto that lead until late in
the final frame when a three-point play by Swaim put the
Lady Chargers ahead by one point. A late foul then sent
Jaycee Sims to the line where she hit one of two attempts to
seal the win for the Lady Chargers.

The Chargers were able to keep the game close through the
first two quarters, but the third quarter proved to be the
difference as the Choctaws took the 85-65 win in the
championship game of the 44th Annual Martin Lions Club
Tournament.
Trailing by seven points going into the second frame, the
Chargers rallied when a three-pointer from Dillon Gardner
sparked an 11-2 run that was capped by a four points from
Jacob Lloyd to take a 21-19 lead. But, Dyer County retook
the lead for good late in the second frame, ending the first
half with a 13-3 run that put the Choctaws ahead 37-31 at
the break.
The Choctaws put the game out of reach at the end of the
third frame, ending the period with a 17-4 run that gave
Dyer County a 64-45 lead at the end of three frames.
Though the Chargers added 20 points in the final eight
minutes, the Choctaws stayed with them point for point to
take the 20-point win and tournament title.
