Despite a rally early in the fourth
stanza, the Chargers were unable to overcome the district’s
top-seeded Dyer County Choctaws as the orange and white team
fought off the Chargers in the final frame to gain the 75-67
victory.
Trailing by nine points at the end of the third stanza, the
Chargers rallied to start the final frame with a pair of
jumpers from Davell Lloyd cut the lead down to 57-52 with
5:51 left in the game. But, a pair of Cedric Jones free
throws sparked a 12-3 run that gave the Choctaws some
breathing room with a 14-point lead. But, a layup from Will
Thompson and a three-point play from Cameron Boyd cut the
lead down to 69-60 with 1:45 left in the game. Though Dyer
County got a pair of jumpers from Rex Pierce to build their
lead back to double digits, four points from Boyd and three
free throws from Jacob Lloyd cut back into the lead. But, it
was not enough as the Choctaws held onto their lead.

In high school basketball, one quarter (or eight minutes)
can turn the course of a game from being a one-possession
game to being out of reach for one team. On Saturday night,
seven minutes doomed the Lady Chargers as a four-point game
midway through the third stanza turned into a 23-point
deficit by the five-minute mark of the final frame during
Westview’s 74-50 loss to Gibson County in the finals of the
District 13-AA Tournament at Gibson County High School in
Dyer.
Trailing by eight points going in the second half, four
points from Amber Rechis and a jumper from Caitlin Campbell
cut the lead to 31-27 with 4:04 left in the third stanza.
But, a short jumper from Heather Griffin sparked a run that
was only interrupted by a Rechis three-pointer. A Heather
Butler jumper capped the 13-3 run to give the Lady Pioneers
a 44-30 lead at the end of three quarters.
Picking up where they left off in the third stanza, the Lady
Pioneers opened the final frame with a 12-3 run to put the
game out of reach. Gibson County went on to outscore the
Lady Chargers 30-20 during the final frame on the way to the
win.

For the third straight season, the Gleason Lady Bulldogs
found themselves in the consolation game of the District
14-A Tournament and for the third successive season, the
Lady Dawgs claimed third place, taking a 44-39 win over the
Lake County Lady Falcons on Saturday night at Peabody High
School.
After a three-pointer from Ashley Coble gave the Lady
Bulldogs a 13- 12 lead at the end of the opening frame, the
Lady Bulldogs built their lead up in the second stanza. A
jumper from Kim Edenfield sparked a 12-2 run that was capped
by five points from Jenna Frazier to build a nine-point
lead. Though the Lady Falcons cut the lead down to five
points late in the frame, Edenfield put the Lady Bulldogs
ahead 27-20 at the end of the first half.
Gleason continued to add to its lead in the second half,
getting three points from Sarah Hensley and a jumper from
Coble on the way to taking a 33-23 lead at the end of the
third quarter.
