Dresden dominates West Carroll in five innings |

The Dresden Lions fell behind early, but
only briefly as the Lions took a 17-7 five-inning win over
visiting West Carroll in their final game during Spring
Break last Wednesday at Dresden.
The War Eagles jumped ahead early as an RBI single from Dunn
put West Carroll ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
But, Dresden came right back in the bottom of the opening
frame as an RBI single from Eric Evans tied the game. Zach
Garner, who was a courtesy runner for Evans, then scored on
a Chris Peeler fielder’s choice to give the Lions the lead.
Peeler scored later in the inning on an error to give the
Lions a 3-1 lead.
Dresden added some more runs in the bottom of the second
frame. Gatlin Hatchel plated one with an RBI single and Matt
Beaty slammed a two-run homer to put the Lions on top 6-1
after two innings.
In the top of the third, the War Eagles came back with a pair
of runs as Wainscott got an RBI double then scored on a
Singleton single to cut the Dresden lead to 6-3.
The Lions responded in the bottom of the fourth with five
runs. Evans knocked in a run on a triple and Peeler followed
with an RBI bunt single. Josh Bone added an RBI single. Matt
Janes scored on an error to push the Lions lead to 11-3
after four innings.
The War Eagles came back with four runs in the top of the
fifth. McClain and Dunn scored on an error while Cryer got a
two-run single to cut the Dresden lead to 11-7.
But, the Lions would put the game away in the bottom of the
fifth inning. Beaty got the scoring going in the frame with
his second two-run homer of the day. Daniel Harris followed
with a two-run double then scored on an error. Hatchel then
ended the game with a walk-off RBI double.

Dresden's Drake Campbell wins McKenzie 5K |
|
Drake Campbell won the 5K race held in McKenzie on Saturday,
April 4 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Drake had a
time of 19:11 on the course. The top three winners were all
from Dresden. Drake had a time 19:11; second was Blake
Gallimore with 19:12 and Ed Campbell with 20:04.
A total of 31 runners participated from Dresden under the
direction of head coach Todd Maxey and assistant David
Hatter. The group included members of the Dresden Middle
School Cross Country team as well as other individual
runners from Dresden, all competing individually.
Dresden runners also swept the 0-12 age group. Tyler
Hutcherson won first with a time of 23.16; Timothy Huests
won second with 24:10; Donovan Sawyers won third with 24:23;
Sam Ellis won fourth with 24:55; and Donovan Davis won fifth
with 25:54.
Sarah Hatler of Dresden won second in the ladies' division of
the 5K race; In the 0-12 age group, Carrie Hatchel won
second, Carly Greer of Gleason won third, Rachel Parnell of
Dresden won fourth, and Nikki Rosenberry won fifth. In the
13-15 group, Ashley Pitman of Dresden won second.
In the age group 13-15 - Austin Maxey won first at 21:54;
Justin James won second at 22:31; Bo Rockett won fourth at
27:45; In Age 40-49, Todd Maxey for first at 21:13.

Central Tigers overpower WHS Chargers for non-district
victory |

The Hollow Rock-Bruceton Tigers utilized the strong hitting
of Haden Williams, Hayden Howell, Chance Ragsdale, Dylan
Casteel and pitching of Aaron Runion to defeat the Westview
Chargers 12-8 at the ESPN Classic at Huntingdon.
In the top of the first, Tiger lead-off batter Haden
Williams ripped a double to left field. During Dylan
Casteel's at-bat, Williams advanced to third via a passed
ball. Casteel was hit by a pitch and was awarded first base.
Williams stole third base. Tiger Will Roberts walked to load
the bases with no outs. Tiger Caleb Hollingsworth hit a RBI
grounder to short, forcing out Casteel at third as Williams
scored. Tiger Hayden Howell smacked a RBI double, scoring
Roberts. Bearing down, Westview pitcher Taylor struck out
Tiger batters Brandon Harrison and Elijah Phillips to retire
the side.
In the bottom of the first, Tiger pitcher Aaron Runion forced
the Chargers to go three-up, three-down via a fly-out to
right, fly-out to left and ground-out to third.
In the top of the second, Charger pitcher Taylor walked
Runion and Ragsdale. During Tiger Haden Williams at-bat, the
Westview catcher quickly retrieved a passed ball and
threw-out Runion as he attempted to steal third as Ragsdale
safely stole second. On the next pitch, Ragsdale stole
third. Facing a 2-2 count, Tiger Williams ground out to
second, scoring Ragsdale. Casteel followed with a ground out
to short as Central increased their lead to 3-0.
Westview went three-up, three-down in the bottom of the
second as Runion struck out Taylor, forced Garner to ground
out to short and struck out Shell.
In the top of the third, Central went three-up, three-down as
Will Roberts ground out to short, Elijah Phillips flew out
to deep center and Hayden Howell ground out to third.
In the bottom of the third, Westview's Stanton led off with
a single to short centerfield. Tiger pitcher Runion worked
the count to 3-2 before striking out Copeland. Runion walked
Chargers Ramsey and Parker to load the bases. Swinging away,
Westview's Parham lined out to short for the second out.
Responding, Charger Hughes drilled a three-run RBI off the
right field wall. Digging in, Tiger hurler Runion fanned the
next batter to end the inning as Westview knotted the score,
3-3.
Central stranded two base runners and failed to score in the
top of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Westview went three-up,
three-down as Garner flew out to leftfielder Phillips, Shell
ground out to second baseman Williams and Watson struck out.
Central added an additional run in the top of the fifth
inning via Casteel's towering homerun over the leftfield
fence to recapture the lead, 4-3.
