If anyone says that what happens in one
inning can always be overcome, the Greenfield Yellowjackets
made a strong argument against that as they scored 12 runs
in the bottom of the third inning on their way to a 12-0
shutout victory over McKenzie on Thursday afternoon at
Greenfield.
Three straight RBI doubles by Cody Ricketts, Heath Crouse and
Ty Smithson got the Yellowjackets on the board after a pair
of scoreless frames. Daniel Ricketts then brought home
another run with an RBI triple, then scored himself on an
error to make the score 5-0. Steven Johnson brought home
another run with an RBI single before scoring on a balk to
put the Yellowjackets ahead 7-0. Cody Ricketts picked up
another RBI with a single to put the ’Jackets ahead by
eight. Crouse then added two more RBIs to his stat line with
a two-run single to put Greenfield ahead 10-0. Smithson then
brought home another run before scoring on a Jacob Johnson
sacrifice fly to put the Yellowjackets ahead 12-0 at the end
of three innings.

Lady 'Jackets continue winning ways with win over WHS |
|
A crowd of nearly 100 tennis fans was on hand to watch the
13 singles matches and five doubles matches that were played
as every girl on both teams saw action and see Greenfield’s
girls win every match and extended their season record to
10-0 with the win over Westview.
One of the best matches of the day was at No. 3 singles where
Greenfield’s Summer Hoke played Westview’s Laura Gullett.
This match lasted about 30 minutes longer than any of the
others as both of these girls played good, steady tennis and
made few errors. It was a good match to watch for the many
fans that were present. The score was only 4-3 in Hoke’s
favor when the Lady Jacket won 4 out of the next 5 games to
secure the win 8-4.
The No. 5 singles match was close from beginning to end. Lady
Jacket Natalie Medling and Westview’s Chloe Nance squared
off and neither one could take more than a one game lead
during the match. Medling and Nance battled back and forth
with most of the games going to deuce. Late in the match,
Medling won her serve to take a 7-6 lead. She then broke
Nance’s serve to take a hard-earned 8-6 win.
At No. 1 singles, Katie McCall of Greenfield, the defending
district singles champion, defeated Ashley Ary of Westview
8-1 while No. 2 Lady Jacket Mallory Robinson defeated Lady
Charger Nour Haddad 8-2. At No. 4, it was Greenfield’s
Melissa McCartney winning over Lady Charger Amy Olds 8-2. At
No. 6, it was Hannah Rawls of Greenfield over Whitney Mount
8-2. At No. 7, Lady Jacket Haley Perkins prevailed over
Melissa Darroch 8-0.
