Cary L. Bills

    Cary L. Bills, 43, of Martin, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at his home. Burial was in Tansil Cemetery in Sharon. Jerry Griffin and David Rogers officiated the services.
    Mr. Bills was a mechanic for Southern Machines and attended Bible Union Church. He was born August 9, 1965 in Memphis.
    Mr. Bills is survived by his wife, Laura Bills of Martin; two sons, Cary L. Bills, II of Martin, and Casey Bills of Martin; his father, Larry Bills of Martin; his mother, Roma Yarbrough of Martin; a sister, Kim Bills of Martin; a brother, Chris Bills of Martin; two stepsisters, Bonnie Roberts of Martin, and Sandra Valley; and two stepbrothers, Bearden Stone of Henderson, Kentucky, and Billy Sims.

Dorothy Jean Hamby

    Dorothy Jean Hamby, 71, of Martin, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Martin Health Care. Memorial services and celebration of life services will be held today, Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Maple Cemetery in Cuthersville, Missouri. Rev. Mace Jett will officiate the services.
    Ms. Hamby worked in retail sales for a convenience store. She was born November 28, 1937 to the late William Allen Teeter and Wilsie Waldrop Teeter.
    Ms. Hamby is survived by a son, Anthony (Tony) Hamby of Gray Court, South Carolina; a daughter, Lista Rodriquez of Martin; two brothers, Dempsey Teeter of Niceville, Florida, and Barry Wayne Teeter of Madison, Mississippi; two sisters, Diane Hayes of Puryear, and Patsy Burgess of Dunn, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Glennie Wright Thedford

    Glennie Wright Thedford, 99, of Martin, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for Mrs. Thedford will be held today, Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Bill Tate and Rev. Mace Jett will officiate the services.
    Mrs. Thedford owned and operated Glennie's Antiques and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was born February 9, 1909 in Dresden to the late Ezra Wright and Beulah Smith Wright. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thedford was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Thedford; two brothers, Ralph Wright and Harold Wright; and three sisters, Relma Kelley, Blanche Dunn, and Farrie Mae Wright.
    Mrs. Thedford is survived by a daughter, Charlene (Van, Sr.) Chandler of Martin; two grandchildren, Van (Betty) Chandler, Jr., and Rick (Diane) Chandler; three great-grandchildren, Chris Chandler, Holly Chandler, and Jon (Jennifer) Chandler; and one great-great-grandchild, Addison Chandler.

Joseph Larry Glasgow

    Joseph Larry Glasgow, 80, of Clarksville, died Thursday, January 29, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, February 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Skip Armstead officiating. Entombment followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
    Mr. Glasgow was born January 7, 1929 in Weakley County, son of the late Oscar Glasgow and Cora Henderson Glasgow. In addition to his parents, Mr. Glasgow was also preceded in death by his wife, Sammye Lou Pentecost Glasgow; a brother, Charles W. Glasgow; and a sister, Christine Buckley. Mr. Glasgow was a long time employee of the Agriculture Extension Service at the University of Tennessee, member of the Kub Club, served as past president of the Kiwanis, and board member of Farm Bureau. He was instrumental in the initial formation of the 4-H Program in Lincoln County, and a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church.
    Mr. Glasgow is survived by sons, Scott (Tammy) Glasgow of Adams, Tennessee, and Terry (Cindy) Marshall of Ashland City, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee Christopher

    Mary Lee Christopher, 94, of Crossville, Tennessee, died January 29, 2009. She was born December 7, 1914, in Martin, the daughter of Will and Jervis Penn Parrish. She was a member of Lantana Road Baptist Church. She was very active in the 127 South and Fair Park Senior Centers in Crossville.
    Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Scott Johnson, were held Sunday, February 1, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Hood Funeral Home in Crossville. Graveside committal services were held Monday, February 2, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at the East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Roger Lipe officiated the committal service.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Hayes Christopher; a son, Wayne H. Christopher; and a brother, Haze Parrish.
    Mrs. Christopher is survived by her son, Dennis Hal Christopher of Vonore, Tennessee; a grandson, Stephen Christopher of Anchorage, Alaska; and two sisters, Virginia Louise Parrish of Martin, and Mildred Charlene Leeman of Jackson.

Mildred A. Cates

    Mildred A. Cates, 95, of Greenfield, died Thursday, January 29, 2009, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Center in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Cates were held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Bro. Mark Abbott officiated the services.
    Mrs. Cates was a homemaker. She was born April 29, 1913 in Greenfield to the late Murray Coats and Carley Hornbeak. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cates was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon Cates.
    Mrs. Cates is survived by three granddaughters, Sherry (Horn) Park of Camden, Tracey Cates of Greenfield, and Kathey Puritt of Paris; two grandsons, Kevin Cates of Alabaster, Alabama, and David Horn of Greenfield; and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia P. Brewer

    Virginia P. Brewer, 62, of Palmersville, died Friday, January 23, 2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Brewer were held Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason. Burial followed in Old Bethel Cemetery in Palmersville. Bro. Nathan Horton officiated the services.
    Mrs. Brewer was a retired office manager and a member of Old Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Palmersville. She was born November 9, 1946 in Gleason. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Phillips; and two sons, Ronald Brewer and Donald Brewer.
    Mrs. Brewer is survived by her husband, Bill Brewer; a son, Shane Brewer of Gleason; a brother, Rick Hargrove of Dresden; a sister, Sarah Hargrove of Dresden; and two grandchildren.
