Elease Davis
Elease Davis, 78, of Sharon, died Saturday, February 14,
2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Davis were held Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.,
at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Alamo
Cemetery in Rives. Bro. Don Bowlin officiated the services.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She was born September 2, 1930 in
Obion County. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, J.T.
Davis; and a son, Dannie Davis.
Mrs. Davis is survived by a son, Gregory Davis of Sharon;
five daughters, Betty Baldridge of Lake Station, Indiana, Janice
Davis of Sharon, Anita Lucas of Martin, Charlotte Moore of Sharon,
and Reba Purcell of Empire, Alabama; a sister, Wanda Bassinger of
Evansville, Indiana; nineteen grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
Rebecca Mabel Reed
Rebecca Mabel Reed, 88, of Martin, died Tuesday, February 17,
2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Reed were held Friday, February 20, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at
Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery
in Martin. Rev. David Brown and Rev. Mike Sams officiated the
services.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist
Church. She was born November 17, 1920 in Buna Vista, Tennessee to
the late Martin Giles Bowers and Eva Gay Kee Bowers. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Reed was also preceded in death by her husband,
Dr. John S. Reed.
Mrs. Reed is survived by a son, Dr. Steve (Suzanne) Reed of
Woodbury, Tennessee; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca (Allen) Hanks of
Gallatin, Tennessee; a sister, Clara Lee (Paul) Noles of Bruceton;
three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Scott Charles Boyd
Scott Charles Boyd, 45, of Mayfield, Kentucky, formerly of
Fulton and South Fulton, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at
Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. Funeral services for
Mr. Boyd were held Friday, February 20, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. at
Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in Cuba Cemetery
in Cuba, Kentucky. Bro. Will McSweeney officiated the services.
Mr. Boyd was an employee of the J.U. Kevil Center in Mayfield
and attended Smith Street Church of Christ in South Fulton. He was
born September 8, 1963 in Graves County to the late William and
Hattie Lou (Cochrum) Shelton Boyd.
Mr. Boyd is survived by three half-sisters and
brothers-in-law, Zadonna and Doug Rial of Greenfield, Ranice Jane
and Donnie Charlton of Wingo, Kentucky, and Margaret and Howard
Lawrence of Fulton; two half-brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip
and Claudette Shelton of Union City, and John Wayne and Robbie Boyd
of South Fulton; six nieces; and five nephews.
Shirley Mae Scott
Shirley Mae Scott, 70, of Martin, died Saturday, February 21,
2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Scott will be held today, Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at
12:00 noon at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Martin. Burial
will follow in Parham Cemetery in Martin.
Mrs. Scott was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist
Church in Martin. She had retired from the University of Tennessee
at Martin in the food services department. Mrs. Scott was born
December 10, 1938 in Fayette County, Tennessee, to the late Arthur
and Lillie (Lockridge) Whitthorne. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Scott was also preceded in death by three brothers, Mike Whitthorne,
Claudale Burrow, and Marvin Burrow.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, George Scott, Sr. of
Martin; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George D. and Brenda
Scott of Wildsville, Tennessee, Tony and Sherrie Scott of Martin,
and Anthony Scott of Martin; seven grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jessie Mae
and William Bland of Gary, Indiana, and Katherine Tatum of Memphis;
and a brother, Joseph Whitthorne of Cleveland, Ohio.
Virgie Estelle Hooper Goodlow
Virgie Estelle Hooper Goodlow, 83, of Dresden, died Thursday,
February 19, 2009, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Goodlow
were held Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin
Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Oak Grove
Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Jerry Powell officiated the services.
Mrs. Goodlow was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She was
born in Bay, Arkansas to the late James and Maude Henry Hooper. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Goodlow was also preceded in death by
her husband, Mr. Eumos Duane Goodlow; seven brothers; and four
sisters.
Mrs. Goodlow is survived by two daughters, Pam Mast of
Dresden, and Dona (Larry) Warden of Dresden; two sons, Greg (Pat)
Goodlow of Dresden, and Edward (Alyson) Goodlow of Cottage Grove; a
brother, Phil (Sue) Hooper of Cordova, Alabama; nine grandchildren;
and eleven great-grandchildren.
