Barbara Sue Nevil
Barbara Sue Nevil, 58, of Greenfield, died Friday, April 17,
2009, at her home. Memorial services for Mrs. Nevil were held
Monday, April 20, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel
in Dresden. Bro. Dewayne Thomas officiated the services.
Mrs. Nevil was an Environmental Services Employee for
Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. She was a member of Main
Street Baptist Church in Martin. Mrs. Nevil was born in Lambert,
Mississippi to the late Bill and Ima Jean White Reese. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Nevil was also preceded in death by a daughter,
Angie Branham; and her stepfather, Ralph Barker.
Mrs. Nevil is survived by her husband, Mr. Allen Nevil of
Paris; a stepdaughter, Monica Rockett of Dresden; her stepmother,
Carolyn Reese of Clarksdale, Mississippi; three sisters, Monica
Clark of Memphis, Mary Clark of South Fulton, and Tabitha French of
Greenfield; four brothers, Tommy Barker of Dresden, Shan Parks of
Clarksdale, Mississippi, Michael Reese of Clarksdale, Mississippi,
and Bill Reese of Memphis; eight grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
Edna Capps Tilley
Edna Capps Tilley, 82, of Dresden, died Wednesday, April 8,
2009, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Tilley were held
Friday, April 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel
in Dresden. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason. Dr. Don
McCulley officiated the services.
Mrs. Tilley was a housewife and mother. She was a member of
the Dresden First Baptist Church. Mrs. Tilley was born in Gleason to
the late Charles Hatler and Lucinda Tilley Roney. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Tilley was also preceded in death by her husbands,
Paul Travis Capps, and Gilbert Tilley.
Mrs. Tilley is survived by a daughter, Rhonda (Steve) Greer
of Petersburg, Tennessee; one son, Roney (Debbie) Capps of Dresden;
one stepson, Coy (Patty) Tilley of Gleason; two sisters, Ruth
Jackson of Dresden, and Luree Grissom of Dresden; a grandchild,
Cassi Kaye (Bryan) Walski of Smyrna; three step-grandchildren,
Johnny (Lynn) Tilley of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Joey (Tracie) Tilley
of Arlington, Tennessee, and Jessica (Stephen) Johns of Martin; and
six step-great-grandchildren.
James Charles Braddy
Funeral services for Mr. James Charles Braddy, age 91, are
scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the chapel
of Pafford Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Davis officiating. Burial
will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
Mr. Braddy died Sunday in Lexington. He was born September
20, 1917, in Ridgley, Tennessee to the late Jim and Maude Kirkendial
Braddy. He was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs.
Evelyn Braddy; one son, Charles Braddy; five daughters, Jewel Braddy,
Jean Nichols, Helen Cothran, Ann Mealer, and Virginia Hogan; three
brothers, Opal, Tom, and Bill Braddy; and two sisters, Helen Hancock
and Clare Moore.
Survivors include his son, Billy Braddy of Dresden; four
daughters, Mary Brooks of Greenfield, Faye Davidson of Greenfield,
Kathy Davis of Jackson, and Pam Mealer of Dresden; one sister, Mary
Sue Rhudesell of Ridgley, forty-nine grandchildren; 107
great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
John William Adams
John William Adams, 54, of Martin, died Saturday, April 18,
2009, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services
for Mr. Adams were held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at
Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery
in Martin. Rev. Mark Abbott and Rev. Richard Brewer officiated the
services.
Mr. Adams was a dairy farmer and a member of Ralston Baptist
Church. He was born February 4, 1955 in Obion County. Mr. Adams was
preceded in death by his father, Joe Thomas Adams.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Claudine Roberts
Adams of Martin; two sons, John Bradley Adams of Martin, and Brent
Thomas Adams of Martin; a daughter, Janet Brianne Stockdale of
Martin; his mother, Mary Summers Adams of Martin; a sister, Nancy Jo
Adams of Union City; and four grandchildren, Hunter Todd, Hayleigh
Stockdale, Austin Stockdale, and Bentley Adams.
Larry Howard Garner
Larry Howard Garner, 62, of Martin, died Wednesday, April 15,
2009, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Garner were held Friday,
April 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Ryan Potts and
Rev. Kenneth Springer officiated the services.
Mr. Garner was retired from the University of Tennessee at
Martin and retired from the Tennessee National Guard. He was a
member of East Side Baptist Church and attended Mt. Pelia Baptist
Church. Mr. Garner was a graduate of Martin High School. He was born
August 5, 1946 in Weakley County.
Mr. Garner is survived by a son, Rusty (Rebecca) Garner of
Sharon; a daughter, Stephanie (Dale) Webb of Martin; his parents,
Howard (Happy) and Lucille Mires Garner of Martin; and four
grandchildren, Madison Garner, Christopher Webb, Andrea Webb, and
Matthew Webb.
Lee T. Gilliam
Lee T. Gilliam, 87, Greenfield, died Wednesday, April 15,
2009, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Gilliam were held
Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Mike
Medling and Brent Arnold officiated the services.
Mr. Gilliam was the owner of Greenfield Printing Co. and
attended Greenfield Church of Christ. He was born March 30, 1922 in
Greenfield to the late Thomas Nelson Gilliam and Maude Cooper. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Gilliam was also preceded in death by a
brother, Heston Gilliam of Lansing, Michigan.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by his wife, Katherine (Medling)
Gilliam of Greenfield; a son, Phil Gilliam of Greenfield; and a
sister, Martha N. Brown of Lansing, Michigan.
Ludie Mae Hoskins
Ludie Mae Hoskins, 87, of Dresden, died Sunday, April 12,
2009, at NHC Healthcare Center in Hendersonville. Funeral services
for Ms. Hoskins were held Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Oak Grove
Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Tony Terrell officiated the services.
Ms. Hoskins was a housewife and a member of Bethel Baptist
Church in Yorkville. She was born in Gibson County to the late
Drewery and Savannah Neal Davis. In addition to her parents, Ms.
Hoskins was also preceded in death by two grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Ms. Hoskins is survived by three daughters, Lue Nell Haig of
Yorkville, Illinois, Pat Minard of Yorkville, Illinois, and Shirley
Hardin of Kingsport, Tennessee; six grandchildren; twenty
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Thelma Robinson
Mary Thelma Robinson, 97, of Greenfield, died Sunday, March
22, 2009, at NHC Health Care. Funeral services for Ms. Robinson were
held Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral
Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Locust Grove Cemetery in
Bradford. Bro. Edmond Prater and Brent Arnold officiated the
services.
Ms. Robinson was an employee of McCrory Corporation and
attended the Church of Christ in Greenfield. She was born October
13, 1911 in Bradford to the late Henry Pittman and Etta Jones.
Ms. Robinson is survived by three daughters, Glenda (Lamon)
Kilzer of Bradford, Betty Shelby of Spring City, Tennessee, and
Wanda Sheppard of Lapeer, Michigan; a son, Don Greene (wife, Carol)
of Lapeer, Michigan; a stepson, J.W. Greene (wife, Willie) of
Tigrett, Tennessee; and sixteen grandchildren.
Mordell M. "Dell" Taylor
Mordell M. "Dell" Taylor, 83, of Gleason, died Tuesday, April
7, 2009, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs.
Taylor were held Friday, April 10, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in Carroll County
Memorial Gardens in McKenzie. Bro. Earnest Pounds officiated the
services.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a member of the Gleason
Church of Christ. She was born April 10, 1925 in Gleason to the late
Cleve and Maggie (Hedge) Maynard. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Taylor was also preceded in death by a brother, Valman Maynard; and
three sisters, Mayreen Neighbors, Sue Shaw, and Montez Culbertson.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband, James Hoyt Taylor; a
daughter, Pat Stewart of Gleason; two grandchildren and their
spouses, Stephen and Wynafer Stewart, and Stacye and Wade Cook; and
four great-grandchildren.
Virginia Chandler Travis
Virginia Chandler Travis, 89, of Dresden, died Sunday, April
19, 2009, at Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in
Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Travis were held Tuesday, April
21, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Dan Leslie
officiated the services.
Mrs. Travis was a homemaker and a member of First United
Methodist Church, where she was the longest living member of the
church. Mrs. Travis was a native of Weakley County and the daughter
of the late Alec H. and Lula Ford Chandler. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Travis was also preceded in death by her husband,
James Harold Travis; a son, Jimmy C. Travis; and a sister, Violet
June Daly.
Mrs. Travis is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. (Dale)
Overton of Martin; five grandchildren, Tommy (Lisa) Overton of
Nashville, Tori (Mark) Bertsch of Cumming, Georgia, Trace (Virginia)
Overton of Newnan, Georgia, Jinny (Scott) Killebrew of Dresden, and
Molly Martin of Knoxville; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the
Dresden First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
