While an 11-run first inning can scare
away some fans, the Dresden faithful were pleased with the
Lions opening frame efforts on Monday afternoon as the black
and gold ball players put together a double-digit lead in
the first inning and were able to shorten the game to six
innings with a 17-7 win over Lake County.
The Lions got their offense going early as Greg Alderdice
opened the game with a single then was doubled in by Justin
Hatler to make the score 1-0. Hatler scored later in the
inning on a passed ball. Matthew Chappell kept the offense
going with an RBI single later in the frame. Daniel Harris
plated another run on an error. Alderdice got his second hit
of the inning with a two-run single. Matt Beaty concluded
the offensive onslaught with a two-run homer to make the
score 11-0 after one frame.
Lake County got a pair of runs in the top of the second
inning, but the Lions got those back the following frame.
RBI doubles from Beaty and Eric Evans plated runs. A
Chappell groundout plated a third run and a one-run single
from Wil Vernon made the score 15-2 after three innings.

Dresden routs Jackson Central-Merry 11-5 |

The Dresden Lions got some momentum going into a long
pre-Spring Break schedule, dominated the Jackson
Central-Merry Cougars 11-5 on Friday afternoon at Wilson
Park in Dresden.
The Lions got on the board early as Steve McDearmont got an
RBI single to plate a run. The next batter, Eric Evans, sent
a pitch into centerfield for a unique triple. Though the
ball went under the fence (for what is usually a ground-rule
double), the Cougar centerfielder scaled and jumped the
fence to chase the ball, allowing Evans to reach third with
what could only be described as a ground-rule triple, which
plated McDearmont. Evans' pinch-runner, Wil Vernon, then
scored on a passed ball to make the score 3-0 after one
inning.
McDearmont added to that lead in the bottom of the second as
a leadoff single from Jonathan Boyd led to a one-run single
by McDearmont to push the Lions lead to 4-0 after two
innings.
JCM cut the lead to three runs in the top of the third
inning, but that didn't last long as leadoff walk lead to an
unearned run as a pickoff throw got past the JCM first
baseman and allowed the run to score.
The Cougars again cut into the lead in the top of the fifth,
but once again the Lions had a response. RBI singles from
Matthew Chappell and Chris Peeler put the Lions ahead 7-2 at
the end of five innings.

One big inning proved to be more than enough for the Gleason
Lady Bulldogs as the black and orange girls got six runs in
the bottom of the third inning on their way to a 7-2 victory
over the Dresden Lady Lions on Tuesday afternoon at Gleason.
Dresden threatened early as Jessica Parsley led off the game
with single and was able to reach third before the Lady Lion
offense fizzled out in the top of the first inning.
Neither team could get much going until the bottom of the
third inning. A double from Taylor Stout and a single from
Breanna Wallace led off the inning. After a strikeout, Lacie
Trevathan broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single. An RBI
fielder's choice from Katlin Gaylord and a one-run single by
Riley Auvenshine put the Lady Dawgs ahead by three runs.
Mallory James then came up big with a three-run two-bagger
to give the Lady Bulldogs a 6-0 lead after three innings.
Gleason added another run in the bottom of the fifth when
Taylor Wharton doubled home James to put the Lady Bulldogs
ahead 7-0.
