Westview gets homecoming split with Henry Co.

    About 24 hours before a nationally-televised Charger/Patriot game, a basketball slate with teams bearing those same names highlighted a small Saturday night schedule as, Westview celebrated its homecoming, getting a split in non-district action with Henry County.

    The Lady Chargers used a strong second quarter performance to take a 71-48 win over the Lady Patriots.  Henry County's boys avenged that loss in the nightcap, getting a 70-63 victory.

    After a tight first frame, the Lady Chargers began to pull away in the second stanza, outscoring Henry County 20-12 during that quarter on their way to a 23-point win.

    Leading by four after one stanza, the Lady Chargers built their lead to 11 points early in the second quarter after three-pointers from Megan Ables, Sara Olds and Amber Rechis.  Westview used a late 8-0 run to build its lead to 35-23 at the end of the half.

    After a pair of early buckets from Henry County, Westview extended its lead to 15 points as treys from Grace Ann Swaim and Olds bookended a 9-2 run early in the third stanza.  Both teams swapped points through the remainder of the frame as Westview maintained a 51-38 lead after three.

Greenfield, McKenzie split in non-district action

    Playing a pair of makeup games from earlier in the season, Greenfield earned a split with the McKenzie Lady Rebels and Rebels on Saturday night.

    In girls action, the Lady Rebs won a hard fought battle, taking a 49-47 win over Greenfield.  The Yellowjackets gained a measure of revenge in the nightcap, winning a 50-48 decision of the Rebels.

    In an intense battle, the Lady Jackets jumped out to a seven-point lead and extended their lead to 18-11.

   The Lady Rebels turned it on in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Jackets 12 to 5 at one point and tying the contest 23-all via an amazing last-second score from near the time-line by McKenzie's Morgan Limbaugh.

    The third quarter generated into a see-saw battle between the two teams with the Lady 'Jackets narrowly leading 40-38 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Lady Bulldogs loss to Bradford Gleason's first since 00-01 season

    The long and storied rivalry between Gleason and Bradford saw another chapter written on Friday night as the Lady Red Devils broke a 15-game streak to Gleason, topping the Lady Bulldogs 38-31 at Gleason.

    In boys action, the Red Devils defeated the Bulldogs 61-46.

    The Lady Bulldogs saw their double-digit winning streak against the Lady Red Devils snapped on Friday night, dropping a seven-point decision to Bradford.

    Bradford looked to put the game out of reach early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after just over four minutes of action.  But, a three-pointer from Riley Auvenshine and a jumper from Taylor Stout cut the lead down to two points with 1:08 left in the opening frame.  But, a Summer Spain layup and a Jasmine Arnold free throw made the score 10-5 at the end of the first quarter.

    The Lady Red Devils began the second frame in similar fashion to the way they did the game as a Spain jumper opened a 6-0 run to put Bradford up by 11 with 3:20 left in the half.  But, a Stout layup sparked a 6-2 run by the Lady Bulldogs to end the frame and cut the lead down to 18-11 at the half.
