Gleason splits with Huntingdon in Classic

By Jason Peevyhouse

The Gleason Lady Bulldogs got their 2008 portion of the season concluded on a positive note, and a historic one, in fact, as the Lady Dawgs 57-41 win over the Huntingdon Fillies at the Huntingdon Point Guard Classic gave Gleason head coach Randy Frazier his 600th career win at Gleason High School.
In boys’ action, the Bulldogs put up a good fight, but fell 57-49 to the Mustangs.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead then held on to give their head coach a milestone victory.
After an early Huntingdon tally, the Lady Bulldogs answered with an 11-2 run that was built on seven points from Kim Edenfield. Jumpers from MiKelsey Jordan and Deidra Jordan cut the lead down to three points, but a pair of jumpers from Jenna Frazier to end the frame put the Gleason lead at 15-8.
In a slow second quarter, the Fillies got free throws from MiKelsey Jordan and Haley Hatch and a jumper from Brinn Scarbrough to cut the lead back to four points later in the frame. But, three points from Taylor Stout pushed the Gleason lead back to 22-15 at the break.
Gleason expanded its lead early in the second half as seven points from Edenfield were the foundation of a 10-0 run to but the Lady Bulldogs ahead by 15 points. Huntingdon tried to fight its way back into it, but a three-pointer from Ashley Coble and four points from Stout kept the Lady Dawgs ahead by 12 going into the final frame.
Huntingdon got a three-pointer from Brittany Bolen and a jumper from MiKelsey Jordan cut the Gleason lead to seven points early in the frame, but a three-pointer from Edenfield sparked a 10-4 run that put the game out of reach for the Fillies. Though Huntingdon cut the lead back to 10 points late in the game, the Lady Bulldogs were six of six from the line in the final moments to seal the win.

Dresden rallies late, but falls to Trinity Christian Lions

By Jason Peevyhouse

A rough third quarter for the Lions was erased by a lengthy fourth-quarter run by Dresden. However, a pair of late fouls proved to be costly as the TCA Lions took the 68-65 win in the second day of the Huntingdon Point Guard Classic at Huntingdon High School.
Jumpers from Matt McCulley and Dillon Matlock put Dresden ahead by one point early in the second half. But, a pair of three-pointers from Jabriel Washington sparked a 21-6 run that lasted much of the third quarter and helped give the TCA Lions a 57-44 lead after three frames.
A three-pointer from Justin Perry pushed the TCA lead to 16 points with 5:28 left in the game. A short jumper from McCulley, though, got the Lions going as the senior hit four three-pointers and Matlock added another one to build a 17-0 run and give the Dresden boys a 63-62 lead with 1:34 left in the game. But, a foul on a shot beyond the arch followed by a technical foul proved costly as freebies from Justin Perry and Washington proceeded a Benji Sparks deuce to give TCA a three-point lead. After a Daniel Harris tally cut the lead back to one with 33 seconds left, a pair of Washington free throws sealed the win for the TCA Lions.
McCulley led the way for Dresden with 30 points while Matlock scored 15 and Harris tallied 11.
