Yellowjackets rout Dresden 14-3 for district win

By Jason Peevyhouse

Sports Editor

The Greenfield Yellowjackets proved they are going to be a team to be reckoned with in District 14-A as the orange and black boys got a five-run first and a six-run fourth on their way to a 14-3 victory over the Lions on Monday afternoon at Wilson Park in Dresden.

The Yellowjackets got their going early. With the bases loaded an one out in the top of the first inning, Dalton Potts singled in a pair of runs to put the ’Jackets on the board. Daniel Ricketts followed with an RBI single. Ty Smithson rounded out the scoring later in the inning as two runs scored on a fielder’s choice to make the score 5-0.

Dresden was able to answer in the bottom of the inning, though. A leadoff walk led to an RBI double from Matt Beaty. Beaty then scored on a single from Eric Evans to make the score 5-2 after one inning.

Greenfield got back on the board in the top of the third inning as Yellowjacket pitcher helped his own cause with a leadoff homer. After reaching on a fielder’s choice, Daniel Ricketts scored on an error to make the score 7-2.

The Yellowjackets broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning. A pair of runs scored on an error to put Greenfield ahead by seven. Smithson reached on an error to plate another run to put the ’Jackets ahead 10-2. Brett Perkins then plated a pair of runs with a single and Cody Ricketts followed with a one-run single to put the Yellowjackets ahead 13-2.

By Jason Peevyhouse

For the second time this season, the Mustangs routed Dresden, this time taking a 14-1 victory during the St. Jude Classic in Union City on Thursday afternoon.

Dresden was able to get the ball rolling first though as a Justin Hatler double was followed by a Matt Beaty RBI two-base hit to make the score 1-0 after the top of the first inning.

But, Huntingdon answered in a big way in the bottom of the frame as three straight singles were capped off by a one-run single from Cole Adams. Two batters later, a two-run single from Blake Burke put the Mustangs ahead back three runs. Dylan Cliftt and Ben Carter each added RBI groundouts to make the score 5-1 after one frame.

McAdams added another RBI single in the bottom of the second to put Huntingdon up 6-1.

The Mustangs added one more in the bottom of the third as Carter got a second one-run groundout to put Huntingdon ahead 7-1.

Auvenshine one-hits Greenfield Lady 'Jackets

By Jason Peevyhouse

Sports Editor

A big second inning and a superb outing on the mound by Gleason’s Riley Auvenshine was enough to give the Lady Bulldogs an important 8-1 district win over the Lady ’Jackets on Wednesday afternoon at Greenfield.

After a non-offensive first inning, the Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the top of the second frame. An Auvenshine double and a Taylor Stout single set the tone for the inning as a three-run single by Breanna Wallace broke the scoreless tie. Lacie Trevathan reached on an error to score another run and put Gleason ahead 4-0.

The Lady Dawgs added to that score in the top of the third inning as Katlin Gaylord singled then scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-0.

Greenfield got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Brantley Wiley reached on an error then scored on another to cut the lead to 5-1 after four frames.
