The Greenfield Yellowjackets proved they
are going to be a team to be reckoned with in District 14-A
as the orange and black boys got a five-run first and a
six-run fourth on their way to a 14-3 victory over the Lions
on Monday afternoon at Wilson Park in Dresden.
The Yellowjackets got their going early. With the bases
loaded an one out in the top of the first inning, Dalton
Potts singled in a pair of runs to put the ’Jackets on the
board. Daniel Ricketts followed with an RBI single. Ty
Smithson rounded out the scoring later in the inning as two
runs scored on a fielder’s choice to make the score 5-0.
Dresden was able to answer in the bottom of the inning,
though. A leadoff walk led to an RBI double from Matt Beaty.
Beaty then scored on a single from Eric Evans to make the
score 5-2 after one inning.
Greenfield got back on the board in the top of the third
inning as Yellowjacket pitcher helped his own cause with a
leadoff homer. After reaching on a fielder’s choice, Daniel
Ricketts scored on an error to make the score 7-2.
The Yellowjackets broke
the game open in the top of the fourth inning. A pair of
runs scored on an error to put Greenfield ahead by seven.
Smithson reached on an error to plate another run to put the
’Jackets ahead 10-2. Brett Perkins then plated a pair of
runs with a single and Cody Ricketts followed with a one-run
single to put the Yellowjackets ahead 13-2.
